The launch of the Healthy Grains Institute (HGI) is the first step in helping Canadians learn what science says about the health and nutritional benefits of whole grains.
HGI is a not-for-profit Institute guided by an independent Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) that will direct Canadians to the latest research on the benefits of whole grains – including weight management, chronic disease prevention and many other health issues. The Institute was formed in part to provide a collective, scientific voice to counter what may be unsupported and false claims made about whole grains such as wheat, barley and oats in fad diets that gain popularity through celebrity ‘authorities’.
Part of the Healthy Grains Institute’s ongoing series of communications is the Whole Grain Hot Topics. Serving as a credible, central source of whole grain research, these tools provide knowledge and evaluations of the health effects of whole grains. You will learn science-backed information about the gluten-free diet, wheat and other whole grains and the impact seen in scientific research on weight management and chronic disease.
So take some time to look through the HGI website, download the series of Whole Grain Hot Topic fact sheets and if you have any questions, please contact us. You can also follow us on Twitter or find us on Facebook.
Keep coming back for the latest science on whole grains.
